Folio Privacy Policy
Folio is a minimal document scanner. Your scans stay on your device — but Folio does show ads, which involve some data collection by Google. This policy explains exactly what happens and the choices and rights you have.
Last updated: 15 July 2026
The short version
Your documents stay on your device — we never see or upload them.
To keep Folio free, the app shows ads through Google AdMob. To serve those ads, Google collects some technical data (such as a device advertising identifier and IP address). In the EU/EEA and UK you’ll be asked for consent before any personalized ads are shown, and you can change your choice at any time.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller for Folio is Iosvisual (“we”, “us”). For any privacy question or request, contact us at support@iosvisual.com. For advertising, Google acts as an independent controller of the data it collects (see “Advertising” below).
What stays on your device
Your scanned pages, extracted text, folders, favorites, and settings are saved only on your device, in the app’s private storage. We have no account system and no server of our own, and we never receive, upload, or sell your documents.
Camera & text recognition
The camera is used only to scan documents you choose to capture. Text recognition runs entirely on your deviceusing Apple’s Vision framework — the images and text are never uploaded.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
Folio displays ads using Google AdMob, a service provided by Google. To serve and measure ads, Google and its advertising partners may collect and process:
- A device advertising identifier (on iOS, the IDFA, only if you allow tracking).
- Your IP address and coarse, approximate location derived from it.
- Device and app information (device type, operating system, app version, language).
- Ad interaction data (which ads were shown, viewed, or tapped).
Google uses this data to show ads, limit how often you see the same ad, measure performance, and — only with your consent — to personalize the ads you see. We do not share your scanned documents or their contents with Google or any advertiser.
You can learn how Google uses this data in “How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services” and in Google’s Privacy Policy.
Your consent & choices
- EU / EEA / UK consent. The first time you open Folio, a consent screen (provided through Google’s consent tools) lets you choose whether ads can be personalized. You can change or withdraw this choice at any time from Settings → Privacy choices in the app.
- Apple App Tracking Transparency. On iOS, Folio will ask for permission before using your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) for tracking. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will be non-personalized.
- Reset or limit your ad ID. You can reset your advertising identifier or turn off personalized ads in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking and Apple Advertising.
Declining personalized ads does not stop you from using any feature of Folio.
Legal bases (GDPR)
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for personalized advertising and any use of your device’s advertising identifier.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for showing basic, non-personalized ads and for keeping the app secure and functioning. You can object to this at any time.
International data transfers
Google may process advertising data on servers located outside your country, including in the United States. Where data leaves the EEA or UK, Google relies on legal safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses. See Google’s Privacy Policy for details.
Data retention
Your on-device content stays until you delete it or uninstall the app. Advertising data collected by Google is retained by Google according to its own retention policies. We do not hold copies of it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the EU/UK GDPR), you have the right to:
- access, correct, or delete personal data held about you;
- restrict or object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time;
- data portability; and
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
Because your documents live only on your device, you can exercise access and deletion for them directly in the app. For advertising data held by Google, you can use Google’s own privacy controls, or contact us at support@iosvisual.com and we’ll help.
Children
Folio is a general-audience app and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data through the app, contact us and we will address it.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above. Material changes may also be noted in the app.
