Morsel Privacy Policy
Morsel tracks what you eat, which is personal. This policy explains exactly where that information goes — and where it doesn't.

The short version
Morsel has no accounts and no ads. Your meals, photos, and numbers are saved on your device, and we never see them.
Morsel works offline by default. If you choose to add your own AI provider key, the meals you ask it about are sent to that provider — that’s optional, off until you set it up, and explained below.
What Morsel stores
Your meals, chat history, meal photos, calorie and macro totals, and your settings are saved only on your iPhone. We have no account system and no server of our own, so we never receive, upload, or sell what you eat.
Works offline by default
Morsel’s built-in food engine runs entirely on your device. Everyday meals are understood and calculated locally, with no network connection and no third party involved.
Optional AI (your own key)
Morsel can optionally use a cloud AI provider — such as Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic’s Claude — to understand trickier meal descriptions or recognise food in a photo. This is off until you add your own API key in Settings.
When it is on, and only when you actually use one of those features:
- The meal text or photo you submitted is sent directly from your device to the provider you chose — it does not pass through any server of ours.
- That provider handles the data under its own privacy policy and terms, and your account with them, not ours, governs it.
- Your full history is never sent — only what that request needs.
Your API key is stored securely in the iOS Keychain on your device and is never sent to us. You can remove it at any time in Settings to turn these features off.
Camera & photos
If you photograph a meal, iOS asks for camera or photo library permission. Those photos are stored on your device with the meal. They are only ever sent anywhere if you have set up the optional AI recognition described above, and then only to your chosen provider.
Food and health information
What you eat can say something about your health, so we treat it carefully: it stays on your device, we have no way to read it, and it is never used for advertising or sold to anyone. Morsel does not read from or write to Apple Health.
No ads, no tracking
Morsel contains no advertising SDKs and no third-party analytics. We do not build a profile of you and we never sell data — because we never receive any.
Children
Morsel is a general-audience app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the “Last updated” date above.
